Break

Break
Vignette

Sometimes, the strain is too much. The weight is no longer bearable. There might be warning. A hairline crack slowly widening. Perhaps it would just fracture and break in a matter of seconds instead. Some breaks, like bones, heal given time and treatment. Others, twist and contort so much that the pieces no longer look like they were once part of a whole.

Rot

Rot

Part 1 of ?

The city is like a forest. Bright green leaves catch the sun up in the canopy but below your feet, under the most recent layer of fallen leaves, there is another world feeding on the remains of those long fallen from grace. We've moved to a world of cold concrete and dazzling streetlights but the laws of nature still apply and where there's nature there is rot feeding the cycle of life.

Superhero

Superhero

Short Story

The city became a star-field once night fell. More often than not, she finds herself in the dark pockets between the buzzing glow of city lights. Once upon a time, she hunted knights and kings. Now, she was left to prey upon the scum of society. Those whose absence would be noted with relief but that no one would miss. Gone were the days of knights seeking to bring a blade to her neck and come the days where projectiles came after her faster than she could dodge them. So, she sticks to the shadows, the places people still don't want to look.

Brew

Brew

Short Story

A character will soon find that some enemies never die and that in our idleness they can grow strong once more. This is a little bit on the darker side but not quite horror.

Doorway

Doorway

Short Story; Part 1 of ?

I've been writing a lot of dark things lately so I decided to take a trip to a place where fear, hate, and anger cannot exist. A place that many of us, I'm sure, only visit in our dreams. So please, take a little break from the trials of reality and lose yourself in another world.

Appearances

Appearances

Two short tales

A continuation of the second version of The Price. What evil would you do in the name of justice? What good would you do to further your own ends? Actions may speak louder than words but motivations are not so easily found out.

The Wishing Well Pt. 4

The Wishing Well

Part 4 of 4

Part One :: Part Two :: Part Three :: Part Four

The story, at least for now, draws to a close. I will return to Gwen and the many questions this story has left unanswered but only after I have arrived at them myself. For the moment, enjoy the conclusion to "The Wishing Well".

The Wishing Well Pt. 3

The Wishing Well

Part 3 of 4

Part One :: Part Two :: Part Three :: Part Four

The third installment of my ongoing work-in-progress, "The Wishing Well" Trouble is stirring in Gwen's hometown. The cause seems to  be some big secret the older folks are keeping to themselves. A not-such-a-stranger after all shows up with warnings and answers.

Note: Hopefully, the parts that come after this will begin to reflect what I have learned so far from the feedback on this and other pieces. Also, the first person to guess correctly the identity of the stranger gets to make a writing request. :)

The Wishing Well Pt. 2

The Wishing Well

Part 2 of 4

Part One :: Part Two :: Part Three :: Part Four
The second part to my take on The Wishing Well. Gwen begins to suspect that not all is well in her sheltered world. This was written prior to feedback on the first part. Improvements will begin starting with part 4.

Rewrite #1: The Price

The Price

A snapshot, Rewrite #1

What leads a person down the path of evil? Perhaps, it starts with something small and spirals further and further away from the path of morality. Sometimes, the bad guys start out as good. Keep this in mind before you condemn this character into the bowels of hell. I know it's hard. Let me know what you think and if you've read them both, which version you like better.

The Wishing Well Pt. 1

The Wishing Well

Part 1 of 4

Part One :: Part Two :: Part Three :: Part Four
We've all heard of the wishing well even if not all of us believe in its magic but in another world, a heartbroken magic-user makes one in hopes of having the hardships that the world had thrown at him undone.

Note: This story is taking too long for me to complete so I'm going to begin posting it in parts. As always, feedback is appreciated! Let me know what you think, either here or on my writer's page on facebook.

The Price

The Price

A snapshot

This is a standalone piece that isn't for the lighthearted. What price would you pay for freedom and eternal life? What would you destroy? What horror would you commit? When would it become so easy that you'd hardly call it a price to be paid? Would you lose everything you are and should be just to live a little longer in your illusion of freedom? Would you care if you did? Enjoy, or throw up depending on what kind of person you are. Hate it? Love it? Let me know.

The Oldest Egg

The Oldest Egg

A short story
Companion piece to: The Foundling

There is a rather curious thing in the oldest hatching grounds. An egg that never hatched yet did not go rancid and did not show any other signs of decay. Young dragons, once they leave the nest, often go upon learning of it to see the curiosity for themselves. Rumors circulate that it can even grant wishes and the lure of having their dreams made true draws those that would not otherwise be interested.

Needlework

Companion piece to The Idle Maiden of Wealth  and  Parting  This can be read on its own but you get more story if you read them all. They can be read in any order but chronologically based on in-story time they are: Parting, Needlework, The Idle Maiden of Wealth. As always, any feedback is welcome and appreciated. Hate it? Love it? Let me know.

Parting

Companion piece to  "The Idle Maiden of Wealth"   I recommend that you read them both as together they form a clearer picture but they each can stand on their own. As always, feedback positive or negative is  welcome and appreciated.

The Foundling

The Foundling
A very short story

Some dragons, have the ability to change their shape, or rather create a pocket dimension inside of a human skin. A few of the older dragons can grow a human skin based on their long experiences with the species, some can create human dolls that they can see and act through while retaining their original shape. However, the youngest dragons can achieve the result by animating a corpse or stealing its skin if they have learned either art from one of their caretakers. In rare cases, a young unlearned dragon may achieve the result by stealing the mind of an impressionable human being. However, the dragon may then forget that it is a dragon and believe itself to be human as their true body hibernates.

Note: Written in two hours and unrefined but comments and critique are still welcome.
